Im looking for a space movie thats kinda like the video games mass effect. Not exactlyl like the game but the same idea. Humans and aliens working together to stop the bad guy kinda thing.

It's funny you mention Star Trek since a lot from Mass Effect was based on that franchise. I saw a lot of influence in the movie Star Trek: First Contact. I'm not a Star Trek fan myself, but I really like that movie.
The idea of a "Prothean" artifact that advances civilizations comes from 2001: A Space Odyssey. In that movie an artifact is always present when humanity faces a new technological evolution. 2001 Also uses the "fear of artificial intelligence" trope that is very important in the Mass Effect storyline.
Mass Effect also draws inspiration from Battlestar Galactica. The music is based on Vangelis' Blade Runner soundtrack, but that's not a space movie.
There are also two Mass Effect movies in the works. One if an anime, the other is a live action movie by Legendary Pictures from the producers of The Dark Knight and Spider-Man. More info about the live action movie in two weeks at Comic Con.Space Movies? Mass Effect?
